Of the word "Epic"

So how many of you guys out there know what the word "epic"means? Although seeing and hearing people using this word so many times, I never really bother to go and look up the meaning. I just assume it was another word with some stupid/funny meanings made up by the internet like LOL, troll, spam or fake/never-should-have-existed things like Justin Bieber and pedobear... I always thought the word "epic" means something crazy/over-the-top/awesome. Like the youtube channel "EpicMealTime" where they show a bunch of crazy Canadian dudes get super drunk and cook really crazy food with bacon added in everything ("Bacon Jack Daniel Saaauce". Bacon, Jack Daniels and everything nice.. these are the ingredients chosen to create the perfect suicide meal. -- EpicMealTime Powerpuff girl intro). I seriously doubt they can live over 35 years old..

Anyways, I recently finish watching an anime called "Tenge Toppa Gurren Lagann". In the last episode,  the final battle, the bad guy and the good guy fights in outer space. In the middle of the battle, the bad guy suddenly decides to start throwing galaxies at the good guy (yes, you heard right. Outer space galaxy. As in Milky Way galaxy's galaxy. The bad guy grabs a bunch of them and starts throwing at the good guy. That is just how awesome this anime is. Go watch it. Right now). Seeing how the galaxies are being thrown like fruits, I was like "WOW!! THAT was EPIC!!". And at that instance, I thought I finally knew what epic really means. That was the first time I felt what the word epic might feel like.

The next day, I met my friend who introduced me this great anime. Wanting to confirm/get the meaning epic right, I asked him if he knew what epic meant and if the anime "epic". The conversation went like this:

"Epic means super awesome."

"Huh? I dont really get it.. Is it like super great? Like over the top/ funny/great?"

"You know the word 'best'? 'Epic' is two stages above 'best'."

"Wait.. 'best' means the best of all. As in nothing can be better than 'best'."

"Well, epic is better than best. Two stage better."

"Okay... so what is the stage between epic and best?"

"Nothing......"


So ya... I'm still not completely sure what epic means.. After hearing my friend's explanation of the word "epic", I felt the same "epic feeling" I had the first time after watching the final battle. Like "wow, this explanation is epic!"
So I think something that is epic is something that is funny, makes no sense and awesome. Take note the high lighted "makes no sense".
